How to Install Traction Studs
Step 1
Insert the install tool into a variable-speed power drill. Do not use an impact driver. Snap a stud into the tip of the install tool, with the auger end pointing outward.
Step 2
Place the tip of the stud's auger firmly against a thick knob on the tire. Apply steady downward pressure while slowly screwing the stud into the rubber until the prongs on the tool fully penetrate. The notched collar of the stud should sit flush with the surface of the tire. If not inserted deeply enough, studs may come loose during use.
Step 3
Remove the tool from the stud. Repeat the process for the remaining studs. For best traction, install the studs in a staggered pattern rather than a straight line. This helos ensure better contact with the terrain.
